Function Technology and Qingdao University jointly established the "Marine Phospholipid High-end Formulation R&D Center", which carried out the lab-scale process development for curcumin and paclitaxel phospholipid complex formulations. The results showed that drug solubility was greatly improved after phospholipid modification, with the solubility of the paclitaxel phospholipid complex increased by 50 times. In vivo PK studies are about to be conducted. Two patents regarding curcumin and paclitaxel phospholipid complexes have been accepted.
Lab-scale process development has been completed. A pilot-scale workshop for Antarctic krill polyene phosphatidylcholine API, equipped with a 5-ton extraction tank, was built in December 2024. Pharmaceutical and preclinical studies will be carried out after pilot scale-up production. This project also won the second prize in the "13th China innovation & entrepreneurship competition - marine specialized competition".
On September 7, 2025, Function Technology attended the 2025 East Asia Marine Expo and, together with China Pharmaceutical University, presented phased research results on Antarctic krill-derived polypeptides in anti-tumor and anti-aging. The research team screened 6 active polypeptides from Antarctic krill genome, two of which showed activity comparable to paclitaxel at high concentrations. Antarctic krill MP-3 significantly inhibited 25 types of tumor cells. Four polypeptides performed remarkably in the anti-aging field, with MP-6 extending the lifespan of nematodes by 6 days, equivalent to 24 years in humans. In the future, both parties will deeply explore the anti-aging and anti-tumor activities of Antarctic krill-derived polypeptides in animals and accelerate the market launch process of related products.
Function Technology has completed pilot-scale production of three batches of krill phospholipids as cosmetic ingredients. Function Technology, in collaboration with the Center for R&D and Evaluation of Pharmaceutical Excipients and Generic & Innovative Drugs of China Pharmaceutical University, it has conducted quality research and safety evaluation. The cosmetic ingredient registration and filing were completed in February 2026.
The project "Preliminary Pharmacological Evaluation of Krill Oil and High-Purity Antarctic Krill-derived Polyene Phosphatidylcholine in Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease", conducted in cooperation between Function Technology and Qingdao University, has achieved positive progress. The study results indicated that the intervention with krill oil and high-purity polyene phosphatidylcholine significantly improved the behavioral and spatial learning and memory abilities of Alzheimer's disease model mice, with the high-purity polyene phosphatidylcholine group showing more significant improvement, suggesting a positive role in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
